Singapore has moved into a new era where local food has quietly become a blend of factory-made products, and we have begun to fall in love with many of our favorite dishes. Nasi Lemak was just one of them. A trip to the 2014 Nasi Lemak Convention in Kuala Lumpur was like walking through a glass-looking world that was somehow familiar but completely forgotten.
It was a festival full of people celebrating their cuisine, and vendors who were proud of the food they served. We’ve been treated to an incredibly diverse and delicious range of dishes, rice flavors, and textures – life has changed. As full as we were, our Cendol dessert at the roadside stall in Brickfields was probably the best thing we’ve ever eaten.
